Our Mission

Through the Tapis Bar brand, we reinterpret the heritage of traditional kilims by infusing them with a touch of modernity, color and optimism. Inspired by ancient symbols, often carrying meaning, such as protection, fertility or unity, we play with their shapes and reinvent them in bold graphic compositions , designed for today's interiors.

Our creative approach celebrates the rich colors of oriental rugs while adapting them to more contemporary settings: the contrasts are more vivid, the hues more sunny, and the pattern combinations more free. Each model is designed as a joyful, modular, and vibrant textile work.

This renewed aesthetic is part of a strong commitment: to offer eco-responsible rugs that address current environmental issues. Made from recycled textile fibers and designed to last, our rugs embody a new way of consuming home decor—one that's more sustainable yet still inspired.

The Manufacturing

For us, each rug tells a story of reinvention and respect for the material. Our kilims are made from offcuts from the local textile industry in Turkey , to which we give a second life. Thanks to a carefully controlled recycling process, these residues are transformed into threads, mainly composed of recycled cotton , sometimes enriched with synthetic fibers to guarantee flexibility and strength.

Unlike hand-knotted rugs, our kilims are woven on mechanical looms , using a semi-industrial method that respects traditional techniques while ensuring consistent, high-quality production. This process allows us to preserve the authentic charm of the geometric and colorful patterns, while making our products more accessible.

All our rugs are reversible , offering two decorative sides, and are fully machine washable , making them both aesthetically pleasing, durable and practical for everyday use. They are ideal for modern, ethical and vibrant interiors, where style meets eco-consciousness.

Je suis né dans un petit village d’Anatolie, à une soixantaine de kilomètres d’Adana. Mon père travaillait à la ville et ma mère restait à la maison pour s’occuper des enfants, de la maison et des champs d’olives et d’orange aux alentours. Nous avions aussi une vache et des chèvres pour le lait, et quelques moutons qui nous donnaient de la laine à filer.

Ma mère a appris très jeune à filer la laine et à confectionner des kilims, même si elle n’en a jamais fait son métier. Enfant, je l’ai vu manier le fuseau pour transformer la toison généreuse des animaux en un fil de laine soyeux qui allait servir de trame aux kilims.

L’art du kilim fait partie de ma vie, depuis mon plus jeune âge. C’est en séjournant quelques années loin de mon pays que j’ai saisi la beauté et le sens de ce savoir-faire millénaire.

A travers les kilims, ce sont 10 000 ans d’histoire de l’humanité qui s’expriment par le biais de fils qui se croisent et se recroisent. Les dessins qui prennent lentement forme sur le métier à tisser puisent leurs origines dans les mémoires les plus anciennes des civilisations du Proche et du Moyen-Orient.

Mon but est de rendre hommage à ce savoir-faire, pour que l’art du kilim, dans sa forme ancienne ou contemporaine, puisse continuer à être apprécié dans le monde entier.
